Cashmere Rainbow

July 15th, 2008

This is a slightly cheesy named yarn, to add to the cheese say it as if Doug Henning was saying it. “CAsssshhhmmmere RAAAIINbow” That makes both cheesy and ironic. This is some really nice stuff. It was spun using a 100% Calvin Klein cashmere sweater. I spun the rest of it using  llama, bamboo, marino and corriedale . The colors are lovely. Andy actually picked them out. Sometimes we collaborate for fun.

Oops I Spun it Again

July 15th, 2008

This yarn is a homage to classic Brittany Spears. I was at the Scrap Exchange and they were selling these little Catholic school girl dresses. They were so freaking cute and I think it cost like 10 cents. I cut this little baby up and made is some delicious yarn. I much prefer to spin up the bits of sweater, fabric is a bit of a pain to spin and isn’t as soft and gushy. Nonetheless this is some really lovely stuff.

Parachute Inspired Llama

July 7th, 2008

I have my first gig as a custom spinner/dyer. A lovely woman who bought some of my llama boucle off of etsy requested some more yarn. I have plenty of that white llama left. She requested colors that were similar to “It’s a Parachute Man”. I think these capture it pretty well. The colors came out bright and super saturated. I dyed a pound and a half today- which left my home smelling a bit like a Peruvian whorehouse.

Blueberry Bunny

May 23rd, 2008

This is the latest stuff I spun yesterday! I found this pretty ugly sweater at a thrift store. It is Angora and very bright blue. I chopped it up into one pretty long strip, and then plied it with some moreno/corriedale mix. I also spun a bright green thread around the whole thing for added texture. Its crazy heavy yarn and super angory-ish.  I think the colors go well together! It is kinda crazy though!  I have MUCH more of this stuff so I am going to do other things with it to tone it down a bit.

NOT What Ann Intended

May 21st, 2008

Not What Ann Intended...Hello! This is my first post on my new blog! This lovely handspun yarn was made from a repurposed Ann Taylor Sweater. The sweater is 100% cashmere. I mixed it with some Border Leichester fleece (from a sheep named Deborah).

The yarn is super chunky. The is a lot of cashmere in it. I also spun a thread around the outside to give it a areas between the blue and black a little.
